SOPHIA IRVIN
I am a Master of Marine Biology student at James Cook University, currently conducting research on mapping invasive plant species in coastal wetland ecosystems of West Africa. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, I hold a Bachelor of Science in Marine and Atmospheric Science from the University of Miami (FL). During my undergraduate studies I spent a semester in the Galapagos, Ecuador; conducting research, volunteering, and discovering my passion for wildlife and conservation photography. After working in Biscayne National Park in South Florida post-graduation, I moved to Australia in 2024 to pursue my MMB at JCU.
In addition to my studies, I am a freelance wildlife and conservation photographer, always keen to travel and explore our beautiful planet. I am excited to be conducting my research project with the Global Ecology Lab this year.
