DR ALYS RHIANNON YOUNG
I am a quantitative ecologist passionate about conserving biodiversity. I use large spatial datasets and quantitative models to understand and protect ecosystems and species at broad scales. My PhD research at Deakin University examined approaches to bring together data and knowledges to better understand the state and trends of ecosystems and species in space and time. I have a Masters and Bachelors of Science from The University of Melbourne. I am particularly interested in working with management agencies and Indigenous peoples to support local goals and aspirations for biodiversity management.
In the Global Ecology Lab at JCU, I focus on applying models to map the distribution of ecosystems as part of the Global Ecosystems Atlas using the IUCN’s Global Ecosystem Typology classification hierarchy.
