REBECCA SAUNDERS
I'm a recent Master of Marine Biology graduate from James Cook University, originally from Calgary, Canada. During my thesis with the Global Ecology Lab, I used remote sensing and global land cover data to map and analyze the areas surrounding the world’s tidal wetlands—what we call coastal ecosystem frontiers. My research focused on understanding how land use in these zones could impact the ability of tidal wetlands to migrate inland in response to sea level rise. This work sparked a deep interest in large-scale spatial analysis and conservation planning. I'm now contributing to the Global Ecosystems Atlas, helping map and monitor ecosystems around the world. It’s incredibly rewarding to combine my passion for nature and technology in a role that supports global environmental understanding and protection.
